09:00–10:00 CIO Power Politics

Tina Nunno, VP Distinguished Analyst, Gartner

Leadership and power often go hand in hand. Being a CIO requires a sophisticated understanding of power due to the complex nature of the role. The role itself often comes with a certain amount of power, yet the CIO must often deal with a wide array of stakeholders across the enterprise who are equal or superior in power.

Key Issues:

  • How can CIOs analyze the role of power in a specific situation or conflict?
  • What are some of the most common situation where the use of power is preferable to other leadership tools?
  • What does the manner in which a CIO wields power say about them as a leader?
10:00–10:30 Coffee Break

10:30–10:45 CIO Interview : Short Session of Experience Share

10:45–12:00 CIO Power Politics Workshop

Tina Nunno, VP Distinguished Analyst, Gartner

This session will apply a number of the concepts introduced earlier in the day. Attendees will have the opportunity to reflect upon their personal approach to power, and exchange best practices with their CIO peers. Both individual and small group activities will be included in this session. Participants will leave with possible actions to take to continue to strengthen their position.

Mastery of Power Politics, a vital part of CIO leadership, is about resolving conflicts, and making things happen, with appropriate decisions. CIOs who succeed in power politics embrace it, leverage enterprise power, gain personal power and use their power wisely.

This EXP event will explore the sources of power available to the CIO, how and when they should yield that power and the limitations of power as a leadership tool.

Please note that this invitation is for members and delegates of Executive Programs only and any other applications, resulting in forwarding this invitation, are subject to qualification process to ensure peer networking opportunities.
